Georgia Chamber Choir Visit

The Georgia Institute of Technology Chamber Choir visited our school on Tuesday 20 March 2018 to give a music performance and talk about student life and education in the USA, as well as how they combine their sciences studies with music. This visit was organised by the US Embassy in Cyprus in collaboration with the School.

The prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology is one of the top research universities in the USA, and the prizewinning Chamber Choir is a highly successful mixed vocal ensemble which was founded in 1998, and has established itself as one of the foremost college vocal ensembles in the Southern United States. Singers are selected through audition, and the Chamber Choir attracts the finest choral musicians who have extensive background and experience in ensemble singing. The Chamber Choir performs challenging pieces with a special emphasis on Baroque and modern works and was recently featured with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, New Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Atlanta Opera, and Atlanta Baroque Orchestra. The Chamber Choir also recently won the top prize in the First Annual Conference of Music and Architecture at the University of Texas-Austin, was recently featured at the College Music Society National Conference, and served as the chorus in the Atlanta Ballet production of Mozart’s Magic Flute. We were very lucky to have this opportunity to hear the choir and work with them.

During their visit students in Years 7 – 10 had the pleasure to attend a musical presentation by the choir in period 4, and in period 5 Year 9 students participated in a music workshop, again delivered by the choir.
