A group of 17 students, accompanied by 2 members of staff, recently returned from a Model United Nations Conference in Athens. Our delegation represented the countries of Albania and Benin, serving on various committees including General Assemblies, Security Council, WHO, ECOSOC, Human Rights Council, Environmental Commission, UNICEF and Special Conference.
Our students drafted resolutions, lobbied and debated fervently over the three day conference and made us very proud indeed. In particular, Youmna Fayssal was voted Best Delegate in her committee and Nael Fayssal and Ayrton Wijnand were given honourable mention. Pia Khalil’s resolution was passed unanimously (22/22) in the Human Rights Council. Overall, our students gained valuable experience in research, critical thinking, public speaking and a deeper understanding of global issues and concerns which the United Nations deals with. They also thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful centre of Athens, including a visit to the ancient Acropolis site.
