Message from the Directors
At The Heritage Private School, whilst we emphasise the importance of academic achievement, we also aim to recognise, develop and celebrate the particular gifts of each individual student. We believe that everyone can excel at something, so we offer the broadest possible range of academic, cultural, sporting and extracurricular activities to help every student to find their own niche.
We are extremely pleased that the hard work of students and staff results in excellent IGCSE/GCSE and AS/A Level results year after year, as well as high levels of success in many other external examinations such as ECDL, IELTS, French DELF and the Greek Language Certification Examinations administered by the Greek Ministry of Education and the Centre of Greek Language in Thessaloniki.
Our students once again won a number of Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards and Edexcel High Achiever Awards following the June 2012 examinations: Top in the World for IGCSE First Language Russian; Top in Cyprus for IGCSE Foreign Language French; Joint Highest International Subject Mark in GCSE Fine Art; High Achievement in IGCSE Global Perspectives; Top in Cyprus for AS Level Business Studies and High Achievement in AS Level English Language. Many other students also received at least one A* at IGCSE or A Level, and to the top achievers, the School was pleased to award the annual Piraeus Bank (Cyprus) Ltd – Heritage Private School Scholarships and The Heritage Private School Special 25th Anniversary Scholarship. These accolades were well-deserved, and their recipients are an inspiration to all of our students to each aim for their best academic results.
Our Year 13 graduates progress to well-respected universities throughout the world, and those who left The Heritage Private School in June 2012 commenced their degree-level studies in countries as diverse as the UK, France, Poland, the USA and Singapore.
The cultural and sporting life of the School is always very satisfying, with students regularly achieving great success in the International Award (the name for the Duke of Edinburgh Award outside the UK), in the Kangourou competitions, environmental competitions, and in Inter-School Speaking, Poetry and Creative Writing contests. Other recent successes included second place in the Stockholm Water Project and an impressive showcasing of our students’ imagination, technique and design skills in the ‘Make it! Wood’ Competition. The visual, creative and performing arts at our school also continue to flourish, with consistently high quality work and events such as our very impressive drama productions – most recently ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ – and our annual highly-regarded Art exhibitions.
We are also really proud of our British Council International School Award, which recognises ‘our outstanding development of the international dimension in the curriculum’. The School always participates in the Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDI.M.U.N.) project and the European Youth Parliament (EYP). In academic year 2012-13, The Heritage Private School has hosted the 6th National Session of the EYP, three of our students were key organisers for the 7th National Session, and our students admirably represented both the School and Cyprus in the 72nd International EYP Session in Munich. Comenius exchange projects, where students of different European countries meet to learn about each other’s cultures and share social activities, are always successful and popular. The most recent exchanges have been with Austria and Belgium. In addition, following a rigorous selection process, one of our Year 12 students has been chosen to take part in the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Institute, a prestigious summer exchange programme in the USA to promote shared values in light of the global challenges of the 21st Century.
The ‘Green’ environmental targets of the School continue to progress very well, and include recycling, tree-planting, composting, water and energy conservation, and ecosystems. The School’s commitment to sustainable development and renewable energy has won us an Eco-Schools Green Flag award for these achievements to date.
Here at The Heritage Private School we host many popular events, and visitors can see for themselves our superb site and facilities, which continue to grow. For the younger students our brand new Early Years Building opened at the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year, and in Secondary School our curriculum options continue to expand.
Our sports amenities at our Stadium area on site are outstanding, and include a dance studio, tennis courts and a FIFA Star 1 football pitch. These sports facilities, along with our wonderful 1,500 seat outdoor amphitheatre, are also attractive and popular choices amongst the wider community, as they are available for hire to host sports fixtures, and dramatic and musical productions.
We warmly invite you to entrust the education and pastoral care of your children to our dedicated team at The Heritage Private School. Our school community of students, staff and parents continues to look forward with characteristic hope and optimism to the future: may it be bright, and bring continued success for all of us. We do hope that you will choose to join us, and share the benefits of our superb modern campus, excellent teaching, and beautiful location.
