Computer Labs

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is introduced as a formal subject from Year3 (age 7). As one of the core subjects in the UK National Curriculum, it is given a high profile in both the Primary and Secondary Schools.

The students have access to suites of computers in the ICT Rooms in both the Primary and Secondary Schools, where the internet can be used in a safe environment. Interactive whiteboards and projectors facilitate whole class interaction with a wide range of software, thus enhancing students’ learning experiences. In addition to being taught formally in the computer laboratories, ICT also taught in an integrated manner within other subjects.

In Key Stage 4 in Years 10 – 11, students may choose to continue with ICT at IGCSE level, and in Key Stage 5 in Years 12 – 13, Computing may be studied at GCE AS and A Level.

The School’s computer laboratories are also used to teach the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) qualification (http://www.ecdl.com/), which is an internationally recognised standard of ICT competence. Students in Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) are all entered for the ECDL Core certification, with examinations taken in stages throughout these first three years of Secondary School. ECDL modules may also be taken in the afternoon as a subject at the Institute.

In addition to the facilities in the computer laboratories, the School also provides computers for the older students to use during their study periods in the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), for research and homework assignments.
