Cultural events
In addition to its academic courses, the School involves students in EU educational and community projects to extend their experience and learning. “We believe that every child can excel at something”, says Dr Kouris, “so we offer the broadest possible range of academic, cultural, sporting and extracurricular activities to help everyone find their niche.”
Developing interests, friendships and a social life are very important, and the School offers many activities for the students to pursue, including such diverse options as joining the school rock band or singing in the choir, going hiking in the mountains, and participating in competitions for public speaking and dramatic performances. Several students each year also attain the International Award (previously known as the Duke of Edinburgh Award).
The EU membership of Cyprus makes it important in the School’s view to promote European exchange programmes such as Comenius. In addition to this programme, students are also encouraged to participate in the European Youth Parliament, and the Mediterranean Model United Nations. Through such activities, which contribute enormously to self-esteem and maturity, students are taught to respect each other’s cultures, and the Cypriot culture within which they are living.
In terms of social responsibility, the School has environmental aims, too, keenly involving students in projects to promote awareness and understanding of environmental concerns. Taking part in charitable activities that help both the local and wider communities is also highly encouraged.
With so much happening in the School, an annual Yearbook is produced to celebrate the achievements and events, and relive the memories of the year through words and photographs.
