ICT / Computing

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is introduced as a formal subject from Year3 (age 7). As one of the core subjects in the UK National Curriculum, it is given a high profile in both the Primary and Secondary Schools. Throughout, the students have access to suites of computers in the ICT Rooms, where the internet can be used in a safe environment. Interactive whiteboards and projectors facilitate whole class interaction with a wide range of software, thus enhancing students’ learning experiences. In addition to being taught formally in the computer laboratories, ICT also taught in an integrated manner within other subjects.

The ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) (http://www.ecdl.com/) is an internationally recognised standard of ICT competence. The ECDL certificates provide widely acceptable evidence that asserts that the holder has the knowledge and skills needed to use the most common computer applications efficiently and productively in the workplace/home. Students in Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) are all entered for the ECDL Core certification, with examinations taken in stages throughout these first three years of Secondary School.

In Key Stage 4 in Years 10 – 11, students may choose to continue with ICT at IGCSE level. A summary of the IGCSE ICT syllabus, and further information about all subjects offered in Years 10 and 11 are provided in the IGCSE Prospectus, which may be downloaded here. The full syllabus for IGCSE Information and Communication Technology may be found by visiting the CIE website (http://www.cie.org.uk) and locating the subject via its name and/or subject code.

In Key Stage 5 in Year 12 Computing may be studied at GCE AS Level, and in Year 13 at GCE A Level. A summary of the GCE AS Level and A Level Computing syllabuses, and further information about all subjects offered in Years 12 and 13 are provided in the AS & A Level Prospectus, which may be downloaded here. The full syllabus for AS and A Level Computing may be found by visiting the CIE website(http://www.cie.org.uk) and locating the subject via its name and/or subject code.
