MEDIMUN
The Model United Nations (M.U.N.) is a simulation of the debates of the United Nations for students (http://www.medimun.net/). Conferences take place around the world, where students act as representatives of a UN Member State that has been allocated to them. After extensive research into their allocated country, the delegates discuss, write and debate resolutions detailing their suggestions and solutions to world issues. Teachers act as ‘Directors’, and are responsible for training and leading their own delegation of students. The teachers ensure that debates take place in a formal manner in accordance with the 'Parliamentary Procedure' of the UN.
The Mediterranean Model United Nations (MEDI.M.U.N) was the first Model United Nations conference to take place in Cyprus, and was inaugurated in January 2006.
Young people gain knowledge not only about individual countries but also on the systems and procedures of the United Nations.
They role play international politics and gain in-depth understanding of the difficulties, limitations and opportunities involved.
The Model United Nations programmes encourage tolerance and diversity. In addition, students develop important skills such as teamwork and public speaking.
Student representatives of The Heritage Private School always participate in the MEDI.M.U.N conferences and gain many new skills and a high level of personal development from this activity.
