Comenius
Comenius (http://www.lifelonglearningprogramme.org.uk/programme/comenius) is part of the EU’s Lifelong Learning Programme (http://www.lifelonglearningprogramme.org.uk/).
The Lifelong Learning Programme is funded by the European Commission and provides opportunities for those involved in education and training across Europe to work together, learn from each other, and broaden their life experience by meeting other Europeans of different cultures and languages.
Comeniusaims to improve and increase the mobility of pupils and educational staff across the EU, and to enhance and increase partnerships between schools in different EU member states. It encourages language learning as well experiencing new countries and their cultures. In addition, it aims to improve the variety and quality of teaching approaches and school management.
Staff and students of The Heritage Private School regularly participate in Comenius projects. Here is one example of the sort of Comenius projects that take place:
The ‘Con-science’ project involved eight Year 10 students from The Heritage Private School, where the aim was to enhance the creativity of students in science education. The participating schools in our group were from Belgium, Austria, Spain and Slovakia. During the project weeks in Belgium and Cyprus, students attended each other’s schools and participated in workshops and excursions, through which they increased their awareness of each other’s culture and identity.
