Art

The Heritage Private School Art Department provides an outlet for creative students to express themselves through the visual arts. Apart from being taught for two periods per week throughout Years 7 to 9, Art & Design is also taught to GCSE in Years 10 and 11, and subsequently to AS and A2 Level in Years 12 and 13. These latter two examinations combine to make a full A Level.

Students who wish to continue to pursue Art studies at a higher level typically progress to a Foundation Course and/or art and design-related degree course at a UK university or elsewhere. Examples of recent student choices of further study include Architecture at the University of Cambridge; Graphic Design at St Martin’s, London; Art Foundation at Camberwell, Surrey; Graphic & Spatial Design at the University of the Arts, London; Fine Art at Coventry University, and Art Conservation and Restoration in Italy.

The Head of the Art Department has been teaching for more than twenty years in her subject specialism, and the School also has the benefit of a second member of staff who is a highly experienced Art teacher. Both staff members of the Art Department were fully trained in the UK system, and taught Art in the UK until recent years.

In support of their coursework submissions and to enable them to see the relevance of art in the wider world, our students are taken to visit art galleries in Nicosia and Limassol to view any important exhibitions which tour to Cyprus.

The Art Department enjoys excellent relationships and collaborations with university Art Departments in the UK, such as that of Sunderland University and UCA (University of the Creative Arts) in Surrey/London. The School has had teaching visits from their staff, and has participated in a European competition were students exchanged ideas and cooperated in combined artworks. An exhibition was held at Sunderland University’s gallery, showing our students’ work alongside theirs.

The Heritage Private School Art Department also supports charities by participating in the annual competition ‘Breathing Life’, which has helped to fund the children’s Heart and Lung Unit in Makarios III Hospital in Nicosia.

Art work produced by all year groups is exhibited all year round in school corridors.

Heritage School Art Exhibition Reaches Out To The Art World

Posted in Art, News & Events, Newsletters & Publications, Art & Exhibitions, Exhibitions

The Art Department has been an extremely busy environment recently. Our major event of the 2010-11 academic year, the annual art exhibition, was well-attended, with all of the GCSE, AS and A2 Level students bringing their families to see the exhibition in the first few days. It attracted visitors from right across the island of Cyprus, the UK and Russia. It has become such an important annual event that even parents of students living abroad travelled especially to see it.

The Heritage Private School is hosting an art exhibition of art by the parents! This is to thank parents for their efforts last year in helping to equip the Heritage Amphitheatre through fundraising, and also to celebrate the amphitheatre as a valuable community space.

Speech By Andreas Chrysochos: Children’s Art

Posted in Art, Art & Exhibitions, Exhibitions

They say that the happiest time in one’s life is the early years of childhood and adolescence. The most wonderful things seem to happen as a child grows and develops. Of course the child is not consciously aware of their own bodily and mental growth, but intelligent adults can observe and try to explain this miracle.

My father was born in the year 1929 into a family of goldsmiths; he comes from Milia Famagusta. He has liked drawing and painting since childhood, and in this field he was always encouraged by his teachers.
